For over 30 years, he has carried on his father’s legacy of honest, relationship-based dentistry.
Dr. Doug Baxter has spent his entire life in Winder—and for most of that time, he’s been inside the very same dental office his father, Dr. D.O. Baxter, built in the mid-1960s with his mother serving as the hygienist. Growing up, he spent countless afternoons at the practice, watching his parents care for neighbors with kindness, patience, and genuine interest in their lives. It didn’t take long for him to fall in love with that way of serving people.

Outside the office, Dr. Doug’s world revolves around family. He and his wife, Shannon, have been married for more than 30 years and love any chance to spend time together. Their three children—John (married to Emily), Libby (married to Nick), and Mary (married to Avery)—continue to grow the Baxter crew through marriage, new babies, and plenty of beloved grand-pets. Their first grandchild, little Duard, has brought a whole new kind of joy to the family, and another grandbaby is on the way in early 2026.
Whether they’re gathered at home, taking a trip to the grocery store, or enjoying a meal together, he believes anything is fun when the family is gathered. Dr. Doug also feels grateful to spend time with his mother, who still plays an important role in their close-knit family. His father, Dr. D.O. Baxter—his lifelong hero—has instilled in him the values of positivity, hard work, and caring for others with a full heart.
